SPAR is a multinational brand that operates food retailers across 48 countries. For their annual conference, SRS 2022, SPAR required an opening VT – one that would capture attention whilst kicking off the show in an impactful way. With an audience made up of suppliers, employees and partners, they wanted the video to recap the past year and key activities of the SPAR supermarket group.
Our Creative Solution
For the creative solution, the Small Films team went above and beyond. Following extensive research, we worked our ideas into storyboards and accompanying scripts. We wanted the film to feel fully immersive, so we used a combination of film and in-person entertainment to bring the story to life. At the event, a spoken word artist walked through the audience down the aisle speaking words from the script, before a tunnel appeared on the screen behind her (in line with the conference theme of retro 80s tech). The lights dipped, and we made the poet’s transition from the live performance into the video. In the video, the poet walked through different parts of the SPAR world, including the corporate headquarters, a supermarket aisle, a SPAR lorry, and into the fields where the food comes from, before transitioning back to delivering her final lines on stage. With the big screen at the back and smaller screens throughout that complemented the main video, it felt like an art installation within the conference itself. The team worked throughout to overcome the challenges that come with requiring a large crew of varying skill sets.
The final result was a highly impressive video that the client loved. Not only did we produce something completely different, but we also created the significant impact the client desired for their conference kick-off.
